Snowboard Tip: Manage The Forces Under Your Feet
๐จ How To Manage The Forces Underneath Your Feet ๐จ
Knowing how to create, control and release pressure is one of the most important skills inย snowboardingย ๐
Developing this skill will:
โ Help you ride smoothly down the mountain ๐
โ Make your turns more fluid and flowy ๐
โ Add a ton of board performance ๐ฅ
โ
Help you effectively use your lower body to reduce chatter โก๏ธ
Chatter is that disgusting feeling you get when your edge skips out and you feel out of control, especially at higher speeds and on steep runs ๐๐
Keys to Success ๐๐
As you traverse across the slope on TE or HE:
โ๏ธLean into the turn and gradually bend your lower joints through the traverse โ๏ธ
โ๏ธ This creates downward pressure and will increase your grip from the edge โฌ๏ธ
To initiate a turn:
โ๏ธ Stand up = extend and relax your lower joints โฌ๏ธ
โ๏ธ This will unweight the snowboard, release the edge in the snow and disperse the pressure you built up by bending in the traverse ๐ซ
๐ The board will be able to go onto its flat base, allowing it to pivot for a smooth frictionless turn ๐
๐ฅ W&R Pro Tips ๐ฅ
1๏ธโฃ Board performance is when you deform the boards shape by playing with pressure. When you build then release pressure, the board will want to pop back to its normal shape. Use this rebound to propel you downhill into your next turnย
2๏ธโฃ If you are static you are stuck โ ๏ธ Focus on smooth continuous movement. Bending down and coming up gradually โ๏ธ
3๏ธโฃ Alignment in the body with stacked joints ๐ is crucial to allow movement in the lower body and stability through the turn ๐ฆ
4๏ธโฃ If the board is chattering as speed / force from the mountain increases, you need to start moving more to create, control and release pressure ๐๐
